Giving Consumers What They Want – and What They Need

Demand for Healthy Eating

Growing demand for healthy-eating products is exemplified by today’s clearer on-pack labeling of calorie content, plus levels of ingredients that consumers are looking to limit, such as fat, salt and sugar.

For example, fiber and vitamin content, Omega-3 fatty acids and probiotics are emphasized in advertising, packaging, and the media. Yet still the vast majority of consumers think “healthy” food tastes bad. Research shows that 79% of people think food companies need to develop healthier foods that taste better**.
